Research around the World

The site that I choose is the Early Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/index.php http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/major_reports.php
The Early Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) is a unique approach to supporting and family well-being in the context of broader social and economic development. Some of the international research topics that the ECDVU is working on in Sub-Saharan Africa are
·         The Status of Coordination and Supervision of Early Childhood Education in Ghana
·         A Community-driven Rural Early Childhood Development (ECD) Project, with Emphasis on Culturally and Developmentally Appropriate Exploratory Learning Concepts  in Ghana
·         Parents’ and Other Caregivers’ Perception of Early Childhood Development Needs and Quality: A Study of the PLAN-Assisted Programs in Bawjiase, Ghana
·         Nigeria Involving Fathers in Early Childhood Care and Development
·         Curriculum Development Using Community Resources
ECDVU is committed to developing and promoting information of value to Early Childhood Development in the Majority World. An important part of capacity building is to empower participants to translate their learning into practice and to take action to improve the organizations, systems and structures within which they are working. Education can be empowering by providing individuals with the knowledge necessary to make such improvements. However, education can be disempowering if learning is not relevant to the local context of the learners. Disempowerment also occurs if students are made to feel inadequate or their knowledge is devalued during the course of a program.
