Victoria,s Secret

For this assignment I chose to write a story about a lonely young girl who finally figured out her sexuality. I’m going to title it:

Victoria’s Secret

When Victoria was a little girl, she preferred to play with boys rather than girl, and the little children would tease her about being a boy. As early as six years old she would dress in her brother clothe and play dress up in her father’s hat and shoes. As she grew older, and would go shopping with her mother she would always pick out clothe that boys wore. She never wanted to buy any dresses, and when her mother would buy dresses she didn’t want to wear them not even to church. When she played sports in high school, she was very athletic who could play as well as any of the boy. On the playground afterschool she would always play the basketball with boys on the court, never with the girls and some of them made fun of her and called her names. Victoria did not have many friend girls as she was growing up because they would tease her and make fun of the way she dressed. Once she graduated from high school she tried college for one semester but could not make it through. Thought about going to JobCorps to get a trade, but she got pregnant, and wasn’t able to attend JobCorps.

About two years ago I was introduce to Victoria and she was pregnant, and she did not have any medical insurance, or Medicaid. She lived with her mother and aunt whereas she and her mother did not get alone very well. The two was always arguing with each other about one thing or another all the times. So Victoria stated to her mother “why you didn’t tell me about having boyfriends and not girlfriends”? Her mother replied, I thought you knew, they didn’t teach you in school.

Afterward she stated to me that she is a lesbian, and that she had sex one time with a man because of a dare someone gave her that resulted in her becoming pregnant. By her not knowing the differences of sex with a man and sex with a woman resulted in life long responsibility for her and the father of the child. The little boy is fourteen month old and he is a happy little boy. The mother is doing well with her sexuality and raising her child.

  1. Hi Gloria, your story made me think about the situation that many gays are facing. They would like to come out of the closets, but the reality is crural. When gays tried to express it in their direct or indirect ways to the people who they think might understand them well, most of time they are disappointed by their reactions. As parents, we need to be observant and approachable for children to talk to. Only by doing that, we can make sure children will not be scared to talk to us about any thing that confuses them. I also believe that mutual and natal communications between parents and children have the positive impact on children's development. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Hey Gloria,
This story is interesting. I wondered if her mother would have told her about girlfriends if things would have been different. I am a firm believer that you like what you like regardless if you know what it or not especially sexuality.

  3. I think this story really serves as a reminder that we can't wait and rely on someone else to teach our children about things in life. We really have to be responsible and take an interest in helping our children to be informed about the choices that they make.
