This is from the podcast #58  http://www.Unicef.org/;  the site that I have gotten a response from.

This is one of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and internationally acclaimed actress Mia Farrow, discusses about the drought in the city of Chad, Shal Region of West Central Africa on the edge of the desert. She talks about how millions of children are starving, and for those who will survive will be permantly damage from being malnourished. The region has not had rain for four years, their crops has failed every year due to the lack of or no rain.

Poverty means to me that you are living below your basic needs of human which is food, clean water, to have sanitation, healthcare, housing etc.

NACCRRA fact sheet on children in poverty http://www.naccrra.org/sites; (News letter: http://capwiz.com)
This site helps you to see how the poverty level is in your state. So I posted the state of Mississippi, where it shows all children under five years for single parents and for those who are married. The number is higher than I would have anticipated if I had not been during research on the subject.

  1. Hi Gloria,
I am amazed at the percentage of children in single parent homes that are living in poverty! The information you provided is very interesting. I will have to look at their site to see the percentages for Maryland. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Dear Gloria,

Statistics can really give us an objective perspective. It is sad to know that in a developed nation like the US such high percentage of children live below the poverty rate. I feel completely outrage by the cutting in funding for many programs that are meant to aid these struggling families.

  4. UNICEF is a great organization that every one should be involved with. The organization helps with poverty, HIV/AIDs, Cancer, and families and children in need. Millions of children are starving and we need to help by donating and supporting this organization and other organizations that help with children and individuals in need.
